Aroundtown’s 1.5°C XDC Track Record stands well below the 3.7°C MDAX median in the 2026 whatif? Report
In the current 2026 whatif? Report by right°, Aroundtown achieves an XDC Track Record of 1.5°C. Under right°’s XDC methodology, this places Aroundtown within the range defined by right° as Paris aligned*, which is based on the objectives of the Paris Agreement. At the same time, the figure is significantly below the median XDC Track Record of the 26 MDAX companies assessed, which stands at 3.7°C according to the current report.

Since 2024, right° has published the annual whatif? Report on the climate performance of major listed companies in Germany. In 2026, the analysis includes the MDAX and SDAX alongside the DAX for the first time. Of the 160 companies in the DAX family, 71 were assessed. The analysis is based on the XDC approach, which relates a company’s emissions development to its economic development and translates this into a temperature based metric. The result indicates how much the Earth would warm by 2100 if the entire world had the same climate performance as the company being assessed.
The assessment is based on reported emissions and financial data from previous reporting years. The Baseline XDC of 3.2°C describes the starting point of the analysis and indicates the climate pathway Aroundtown would be on without additional improvements. By contrast, the XDC Track Record of 1.5°C reflects the pathway actually taken since the 2022 base year. The two metrics complement each other: the Baseline describes the starting position, while the Track Record reflects the actual development since that point.
“A climate target says what a company intends to do. The XDC Track Record shows what has actually happened, calculated on the basis of reported emissions and financial data. At 1.5°C, Aroundtown is below the 1.7°C threshold that we define as Paris aligned and therefore significantly below the median of the MDAX companies assessed. What matters is whether this pace can be maintained,” says Hannah Helmke, Co-Founder and CEO of right°.
Decarbonising the real estate portfolio is a central component of Aroundtown’s ESG strategy. The company’s Climate Transition Plan focuses in particular on improving the energy efficiency of existing buildings, optimising and digitalising heating systems, expanding photovoltaic installations, deploying heat pumps and gradually transitioning to renewable and lower emission energy sources.
In 2025, according to its own reporting, Aroundtown reduced its CO₂e emissions intensity by 41% compared with 2019, thereby exceeding ahead of schedule the reduction target originally set for 2030. This target relates to CO₂e emissions intensity per square metre and is therefore not reflected as a Target XDC in the 2026 whatif? Report. The reduction reflects a combination of decarbonisation measures across the portfolio, changes in energy procurement and lower emission factors for electricity and district heating. At the same time, Aroundtown’s progress is reflected in its XDC Track Record in the 2026 whatif? Report. Aroundtown is continuing to implement the measures set out in its Climate Transition Plan and to advance the gradual decarbonisation of its portfolio.
“The XDC Track Record of 1.5°C provides us with a valuable external perspective on the progress achieved to date. For us, what matters is not the temperature metric in isolation, but the underlying development of our reported emissions. The fact that we have already achieved our 2030 intensity target ahead of schedule demonstrates measurable progress in implementing our decarbonisation strategy. At the same time, transforming the existing building stock is a long term process. We therefore remain focused on reducing emissions and further improving the energy performance of our portfolio,” says Limor Bermann, Chief Sustainability Officer of Aroundtown.
About right°
right° (in full: right. based on science GmbH) is a Frankfurt based climate tech company founded by Hannah Helmke and Dr Sebastian Müller. The multi-award-winning company has developed the X Degree Compatibility (XDC) model, a science based tool that expresses a company’s contribution to global warming in degrees Celsius. right° provides the XDC model as software that enables companies to independently calculate, analyse and manage their climate impact. The calculations cannot be manipulated, making the results verifiable and robust.
*Definition of “Paris aligned”: Under right°’s XDC methodology, values of no more than 1.7°C are considered Paris aligned. The threshold is derived from the Paris Agreement’s objective of limiting global warming to well below 2°C. It applies to all XDC metrics, including Baseline XDC, XDC Track Record, Target XDC and Scenario XDC.
