Aroundtown strengthens biodiversity in its portfolio
As part of its sustainability strategy, Aroundtown also strengthens biodiversity in and around its properties, making a valuable contribution to sustainability. In Germany, Aroundtown has been planting suitable outdoor areas with bee- and insect-friendly flowers and plants to create ideal conditions for the animals and preserve their habitats. In addition, Aroundtown provides roofs of commercial properties as homes for bee colonies and employs a full-time beekeeper who takes intensive care of the bees. Various projects to support biodiversity have now also been launched in the Netherlands.
To this end, a biodiversity study was first carried out by an ecologist, who determined the existing situation of the property and grounds and identified development potential. On this basis, an office property near Amsterdam was redesigned for different habitat requirements for birds and insects. The measures include the planting of native plants, insect hotels and nesting boxes on the site. On another site in Maastricht, additional habitat will be created in the future, primarily through bird nesting boxes, insect hotels and bat boxes.
These and other measures will contribute to the sustainable development of flora and fauna in the project areas.
Both office properties have also been awarded BREEAM In Use sustainability certification, one of the leading certifications for sustainable buildings.
Aroundtown is a leader in sustainability in the European region. In 2022, the company reached another milestone by successfully being included in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index. This places Aroundtown in the top 5% globally across all industries and in the top 15% in real estate.
