Aroundtown signs long-term lease for 520-space car park in Essen with APCOA Deutschland

Aroundtown has leased the car park at Berliner Platz 4-5 in Essen to APCOA Deutschland GmbH. The newly signed 15-year lease covers 520 parking spaces. Under the long-term agreement, APCOA Deutschland will take over operation of the car park from 1 November 2026 and introduce a digital parking system at the site.

With APCOA Deutschland, Aroundtown has secured a specialised operator for the car park. APCOA will convert the parking operation to a fully digital, barrier-free and ticketless system. Automatic number plate recognition will register vehicles as they enter and exit, eliminating the need for barriers and paper tickets. APCOA will also install new payment machines and introduce cashless payment options, including credit card, contactless payment and payment via app. This will enable faster entry and exit, provide customers with a convenient parking experience and support efficient operations.

The car park is centrally located at Berliner Platz in Essen city centre, just a few minutes' walk from the Limbecker Platz shopping centre and the Essen campus of the University of Duisburg-Essen. One of Germany's largest multiplex cinemas is also located in the immediate vicinity. The Berliner Platz public transport stop provides direct connections to underground, tram and bus services, while the site is also easily accessible by car.

The long term lease provides planning certainty while strengthening the property’s sustainable earning capacity. At the same time, the agreement reflects Aroundtown’s approach of developing properties sustainably within its portfolio through long term leases and reliable operating concepts.
